Antica is the origin of this town and the first documents that speak of it date back to 1000.

The name is certified for the first time in 1238 and comes from the Latin saxum, "rock", so Sassetta is "small rock".

Sassetta was a house of some importance that around century was held in Signoria from Pisa by Orlandi family who later took their name from this land.

The land and the castle of Sassetta continuously followed the history before the House Medicea, then that of Lorraine.
For lovers of art to admire in the Church of St. Andrew the Apostle Roman baptismal font bearing the emblem of the Sassetta Orlandi, a Madonna painting of considerable artistic value, by an unknown author of 400, a rare and cross Crystal Rocca century. XV
